Supply chain data shows that EU semiconductor companies largely depend on non-EU suppliers and customers. In addition, 37% of EU firms customers are in the EU. The US, Taiwan, China, South Korea, and Japan are the main non-EU suppliers to European firms in semiconductors.

The EU Chip Act, launched by the European Commission, aims to support EU sovereignty in the semiconductor industry. This requires new business models and sustainable technologies to strengthen the presence of semiconductor value chains in Europe.
