BLUMORPHO is committed to contribute to the creation of sustainable solutions that combat climate change and enable a better use of resources for a better future. We believe that Deep Tech are the foundation that will support this transition. Indeed, we believe that Deep Tech has the potential to drive significant progress in the development of sustainable solutions, by enabling the creation of new technologies and processes that are more efficient, effective, and environmentally friendly.

The field of Deep Tech is constantly evolving, and the list above may not be exhaustive as new technologies emerge. As an example we could have listed Nuclear Fusion since start-ups emerge in this area.

BLUMORPHO supports collaborations from defining players' common interests to the acceleration of new services & products.

What is Deep Tech ?

When it comes to classifying or segmenting innovation, some approaches have a vertical focus and are specific to particular business areas, such as smart manufacturing or the blue economy. These areas of innovation rely on enabling technologies that serve as their foundation. Smart manufacturing, for example, relies on a range of technologies – from IoT to AI – that have matured and can be integrated into solutions.

Deep Tech innovation is rooted in advanced technology and is driven by breakthroughs in scientific disciplines resulting from cutting-edge research. These types of innovations have the potential to disrupt existing industries, create new markets, and drive transformational changes across various sectors.

Deep Tech solutions are known for their potential to solve critical problems, enable ground-breaking applications, and have a profound impact on society, economy, and the environment.

Quantum Computing

Quantum computing leverages the principles of quantum mechanics to perform computations that are not possible with classical computers. Quantum computers have the potential to significantly impact fields such as drug discovery, and optimization problems. Quantum Computing can drastically improve the usage of our resources such as energy generation and distribution, carbon capture or storage and supply chain optimisation  It also poses a threat to existing cryptographic systems that rely on mathematical algorithms that can be easily broken by quantum computers. Therefore, there is a need to develop new cryptographic systems (Post Quantum Cryptography) that are quantum-resistant to ensure the security of sensitive information in the future.

New Space

Advances in space exploration and aerospace technologies are driving innovations in areas such as satellite technology, reusable rockets, and space tourism, which have the potential to impact industries such as communication, transportation, and logistics. But Space is also considered as a potential source for raw materials. Asteroids are rich in resources such as water, metals, and rare earth elements. The moon or even comets are also a potential source of valuable resources.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI and ML are revolutionizing various industries, including healthcare, finance, transportation, and manufacturing. Advances in deep learning, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing are enabling machines to perform tasks that traditionally required human intelligence. AI will have a deep impact on process optimisation and better use of resources.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Edge Computing

The IoT is connecting billions of devices, generating and transmitting data for processing. Edge computing, which involves processing data closer to the source, reducing latency and bandwidth usage, enabling faster data processing and analysis. It can also improve security and privacy by processing sensitive data locally rather than transmitting it to a centralized location for processing. It is gaining traction in applications such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and industrial automation delivering faster response.

Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering

Advances in biotechnology, including gene editing techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9, are revolutionizing fields such as personalized medicine, gene therapy, and agriculture by enabling precise manipulation of genetic material.

Advanced Materials

Advances in materials science, including nanotechnology, biomaterials, and 3D printing, are leading to the development of novel materials with enhanced properties, such as improved strength, flexibility, and conductivity. With the challenge of the green transition, advanced materials also need to become sustainable. These materials have applications in areas such as aerospace, electronics, and healthcare.
