Industry 4.0

Vision or Hallucination?

April 14th at 1.00 pm CEST

The digitalisation of the manufacturing industry will not happen in a snap. For the front runners, it already started, but if happening, it will take years even decades for a vast majority.

During this series of sessions, we will invite our participants to make their own mind on Industry 4.0 in collecting key insights from the users perspective, the ones facing the daily challenge of manufacturing.

WHAT COULD BE THE WINNING STEPS TO TURN INDUSTRY 4.0 VISION INTO EXECUTION?

ISSUES ADDRESSED DURING THE SESSION

When it deals with Industry 4.0, the promise is a fully automated Fab, 100% managed by Artificial Intelligence, robotics, intelligent and autonomous systems. It deals with a fully optimized production process lowering production cost with neutral or positive impact on the environment. And actually, some leading large companies have already demonstrated very impressive pilots of the Manufacturing of the Future.

This is a very promising way to go especially in the current trend to bring back production locally, closer to the consumers and to further ensure National or European Sovereignty. The current covid-19 crisis has indeed dramatically illustrated the need for a more agile production with the ability to adapt very fast in terms of volumes and production process.

On the other hand, according to the European Commission, European SMEs are representing about 45% of the manufacturing industry. They do not operate as large companies. For some of them, the digitization did not even start and digitalization will take decades.
